Plank Piece, 1973Charles Ray

"Ray was part of a wave of artists during the 1970s who addressed sculpture as an activity rather than as an object. In the iconic two-part photographic work Plank Piece the artist documents the use of his own body as the sculptural component. The static photograph belies the performative nature of the activity presented. Contrived through a complex balance between weight and gravity the artist suspended his body using only a plank of wood, creating a minimal, graphic image that is at once humorous and unsettling."

I exist in the geographical confinements of the United Kingdom and I have been spying on the world with my mechanical eye for about 9 years now.
After falling in love (hard) with film, I have been collecting and experimenting with different types of cameras (SLR, point and shoot, single use, medium format. anything with a plastic lens). Ever since the beginning of my affliction, I have been fascinated by the way light sometimes gives you an extraordinary moment by doing absolutely nothing at all, therefore my eye has been trained to see magic where there is none.
